Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about CD cover templates, print settings, and using the tool.

What size is a standard CD cover?

A standard jewel case CD front cover is 120×120mm. The back J-card insert is 150×118mm and includes two 6.5mm spine sections. This tool uses 121×120mm for the front to provide a 1mm safety bleed when trimming.

Can I print a CD cover at home?

Yes. The PDF is set up for A4 paper at 100% scale. In your print dialog, disable 'Fit to Page' or 'Scale to Fit' and choose Actual Size. Then trim along the crop marks with a sharp blade and ruler.

Is this CD cover template free?

Yes. The full tool is completely free with no signup, watermarks, or paid upgrades. It runs entirely in your browser using client-side JavaScript — your files never touch a server.

Does it work for mixtapes?

Absolutely. CDcovers.cc was built with mixtape culture in mind. Add a custom title to the spine, drop in your mixtape artwork, and stick a fake parental advisory or 90s price tag on the front.

What image formats can I upload?

JPEG and PNG are supported for both front and back artwork. Use scans, smartphone photos, or AI-generated images.

What is the difference between a standard jewel case and a slim case?

A standard jewel case is 10mm thick and uses a full back J-card with two spines. A slim case is 5mm thick and uses only a front cover with no separate back insert. Select your case type in step 1.

Do I need Photoshop or any design software?

No. The tool is entirely browser-based. Upload your image files directly — JPEG or PNG — and the PDF is generated for you. No design software required.

Can I use AI-generated artwork?

Yes. AI-generated artwork (from Midjourney, DALL-E, Stable Diffusion, etc.) works perfectly as long as you export it at a high enough resolution. For best results aim for at least 300 DPI at print size — roughly 1417×1417 px for the front cover.

What resolution should my images be?

For sharp printing, use at least 300 DPI at print size. Front cover: at least 1417×1417 px. Back cover: at least 1772×1394 px. Lower resolutions will still work but may look soft when printed.

Does it work on Mac, Windows, and Linux?

Yes. The tool runs in any modern browser. Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge are all supported on Mac, Windows, and Linux.

Can I add my own barcode?

Currently the tool generates a fixed fake UPC barcode for retro aesthetic purposes. If you need a real functional barcode, you would add it to your back artwork image before uploading.

Why does 'Generate PDF' not work?

The most common causes are: no image uploaded (you must upload at least the front cover), or the jsPDF library not fully loaded on slow connections. Refresh the page and try again. Make sure JavaScript is enabled in your browser.
