CD Cover Dimensions & Sizes
The definitive millimeter reference for standard jewel cases, slim cases, and multi-disc formats.
Standard Jewel Case (10mm)
The standard jewel case is the most common CD packaging — the clear plastic case with a hinged lid, typically 10mm thick. The insert that slides into the front is the front inlay, and the booklet that goes behind the tray is the back J-card.
| Component | Width | Height | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Front Cover (trim) | 120 mm | 120 mm | Final cut size including no bleed |
| Front Cover (with bleed) | 121 mm | 120 mm | 1mm extra on one side for trim safety — this is what CDcovers.cc generates |
| Back J-Card (total) | 150 mm | 118 mm | Includes both spine sections |
| Back Centre Panel | 137 mm | 118 mm | The main artwork area between the two spines |
| Spine (each side) | 6.5 mm | 118 mm | Two spines, one on each edge of the J-card |
How the J-card folds: The back J-card (150×118mm) wraps around the back of the case. The two 6.5mm strips on the left and right fold forward to form the two visible spine edges you see when a CD is on a shelf. CDcovers.cc automatically generates black plaque backgrounds on these spine sections so your title text is always readable.
Slim Case (5mm)
Slim cases — also called slimline or jewel slim cases — are 5mm thick. They use only a front cover. There is no back J-card or spine section in the traditional sense.
| Component | Width | Height | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Front Cover (trim) | 120 mm | 120 mm | Same as standard front |
| Front Cover (with bleed) | 121 mm | 120 mm | CDcovers.cc uses this size |
Booklet Dimensions
Many commercial CDs include a multi-page booklet that sits in front of the disc, behind the front cover. If you plan to add a booklet:
| Component | Width | Height |
|---|---|---|
| Booklet (per page) | 120 mm | 120 mm |
| Booklet spread (2-page) | 240 mm | 120 mm |

Safe Zone and Bleed Explained
The bleed is artwork that extends beyond the trim line to ensure no white edges appear after cutting. CDcovers.cc adds 1mm of bleed on the right edge of the front cover (making it 121mm instead of 120mm).
The safe zone is the inner area where important content (text, faces, key design elements) should sit — at least 3mm inside the trim edge on all sides. Content too close to the edge risks being trimmed off.
